April 2024 Employee of the MonthThe April Employee of the Month is Stephanie Purvis, a seventh grade English Language Arts teacher at Paul Kinder Middle School who has taught in the Blue Springs School District for 12 years.

Stephanie serves on the district ELA cadre and is the ELA building liaison. She is also a building mentor for new staff. She was named PKMS’ Teacher of the Year in 2018-2019.

PKMS Principal Dr. Brett Lyon said of Stephanie, “Her students know that they matter beyond their achievement in class. She connects with each one individually to challenge them as students and let them know she is a trusted adult in the building. Stephanie is a teacher leader who continues to grow in her craft each year.”

Instructional Coach Katie White added, “Stephanie is a master teacher with an extraordinary ability to forge meaningful connections with her students and skillfully weave high-interest texts into her curriculum. Students eagerly participate, discuss, and learn in her classroom. She also shines as a team leader. Her colleagues admire her collaborative spirit, innovative ideas, and commitment to collective growth. Her genuine care for students, engaging teaching methods, and leadership skills make her an invaluable asset to our middle school ELA team.”

Stephanie’s ELA colleague Lauren Weeks said of her, “This is my first year at PKMS, and I was lucky enough to have Stephanie as my mentor, room neighbor, and ultimately friend. She goes out of her way to help students and colleagues daily. Her guidance and support have been crucial to so many. Her passion for teaching and her students’ success is truly inspiring.”

Seventh grade student Elyse said, “Mrs. Purvis is funny and connects with all of her students, and she adjusts to meet our learning styles.”

Fellow student Summer added, “Mrs. Purvis is a kind and thoughtful teacher who makes learning fun.”
